DC United v Chicago Fire post-game review

Our "men in red" took on DC United in Charleston this evening. This game was a tale of two halves. First half Chicago controlled the tempo and drove into the box at will. In the second half the team played on their heels.
From the start of the game Chicago took control. Frustrating the DC defense enough to draw an early PK. Here is where the first question of the night arose. Why in the world is Pardo taking our penalties? Or on second thought, maybe this just shows our lack of scorers. Willis got a paw on it and stole a point from us leaving Pardo at the dot empty handed. Nyarko left the pitch with a knock partially into the half with Federico Puppo taking his place. After Patrick's departure the scoring chances seemed to diminish greatly. The first half finished up with total dominance by Chicago but still scoreless.
At the beginning of the second half I still had high hopes for the Fire. These thoughts were quickly extinguished after United started controlling the pace of the game. This second stanza seemed to be the polar opposite of the first. DC passed at will and seemingly walked the ball in unscathed every possession. Salihi scored the first, of many I am sure, goals for United. When we did have the ball, it seemed, all we did was dump and chase. Puppo seemed to look lost every time he was near the ball. But don't worry he was not the only player under-impressing tonight.
If this is what we are to expect to see this year I am afraid it will be a long season. I am getting tired of hearing everyone tell me how good the mids and defenders look. If we cannot score we will not win. Our team is afraid to shoot in the box. The strikers we have to depend on do not posses the size to bang out dirty goals. We are in dire need of a true scorer. I have been saying that all off season. Tonight was total uninspired soccer. If this is who we are going to have to depend on, the coaching staff needs to light a fire under them. Hope to see a better performance in the midweek against Colombus.
