DP?
Professional American soccer is at a crossroads right now. Is the MLS to become what the NASL became or can they learn to flourish like their European counterparts. With three designated players now being allowed per roster, and furthermore the young DP rule, it is crazy to think that teams without DP's will be able to compete in this league. With teams like Vancouver, LA, and Portland making big moves this off season it seems unimaginable for a team that couldn't make the playoffs for the last two years to even have a chance now. Sure I understand that Chicago has had some problem DP's in the past (Nery). But unless clubs like Chicago start trying to grow with the league, I am afraid teams like LA will soon become similar to yesterdays Cosmos. Our league has the money and infrastructure to become more than just a retirement center for aging footballers. We must start trying to bring in upper tier players from around the world or become irrelevant.
