The Back-Up Plan

With a record-breaking crowd anticipated, Chicago will open the 2012 season on the road in Montreal. Emotions will be at peak levels for  the home team when the ball drops. The long anticipated inaugural season for the Montreal Impact is here. Once again Chicago has seemingly drawn the short stick and been picked to be the first foe for a newly promoted club.
With such a large stage to play on I would hope that we would be able to depend on our defense to calm our nerves and settle the team down. Unfortunately this will not be the occasion with Sean Johnson absent and Arne Friedrich not with the club as of yet.
Without Johnson in net, Jay Nolly should be filling the hole. Jay is not a slouch but with such a large crowd and the pressure of the situation Sean might be a little more calm and collected. At center back Gibbs should be pretty solid having played in front of crowds like this in the BundesLiga. Anibaba on the other hand might have a few butterflies or apprehensions in such a situation. It would be ideal if we could have the newly signed German national to take control at the back and command the direction of the match.
This is not the ideal situation that the team had probably envisioned to open the season. The Fire should be able to pull a win out this weekend but the lack of depth on the defense might cause some problems. Either way this game appears to be one that players and fans alike are not soon to forget.
