Philadelphia Union will be coming into town this Saturday to face the Fire. This home opener should also be the first time that Arne Friedrich and Rafael Robayo get time during a league game. I would think that Frank Klopas will probably start the same lineup with the possible exception of, the aforementioned. Friedrich. Robayo will probably get to see some significant time this week, as well.
Philly is coming to town very thin and injured. With Sheanon Williams getting a call-up to the Olympic qualifiers, now three of Nowaks starters (Freddy Adu, Amobi Okugo, and Williams) are in Tennesee with the US team. The Farfan brothers are both nursing injuries as well as Danny Califf. To add insult to injury for the Union, Porfirio Lopez was called up for the Costa Rican national team. He played the full 90 in Kingston, Jamaica on Wednesday night.
With the back line of Philly decimated I expect Chicago to pick it apart with speed and cunning. And with the addition of Friedrich to the back line I cannot see the Union strikers posing much of a threat on our goal. I expect this Fire goals in this game to resemble our local politics. Score early and often. If Chicago are are not able to put three up on this squad I would be surprised.
Prediction destined for failure: Fire 3-Union 0
