Next Saturday Toyota Park will open her gates for the Chicago Fire and all of us, the supporters. This will begin our season. The early mornings packing up. Setting up in the parking lot. Sitting countless hours in front of that hot grill. Having to tip back drink after drink. And this is all before we can even go in the gates.
Then we have to pack it all back into our cars. Just so we can put on scarves, sombreros, face paint, or whatever. After all of this we must begin the seemingly endless staggering into our seats. All the while singing, singing, oh the singing seems endless. It is really quite exhausting. Fireworks, drums, horns, chanting, and somewhere along the line you get a free gallon of milk.
Nobody ever recognizes all of the hard work and determination it takes to be a supporter. It takes a special person to be able to still root for a team when you are already down by three goals, but we do it. After the game ends, win or lose, we will still be there cheering and waiting for the next match. Just so we can do it all again. Sure it might be a thankless job, but I will gladly do it every week. I just can't get enough.
